This is a media repository that is shared by several projects, currently primarily
Key to Nature and Species-ID.
We welcome it if you request an account and share your images on biodiversity with others.
Currently we are in a test phase. When you upload images we have the following requests:
- Use long file names. There can be only a single image "Bufo bufo.jpg" on the entire repository. Using a date ("Bufo bufo 2008-03-10.jpg"), creator's name ("Bufo bufo by J. Smith.jpg"), or strain number ("City Museum of Erewhon 23487121.jpg") are all recommended practices.
- If you can, please upload large images, not scaled down thumbnails. Screen size is moving fast, and a 400 px "web-quality" image is tomorrows thumbnail.
- If you need to reduce image size, try to keep a width of at least about 1280 x 1024 pixels. Currently this is often full screen, but soon this may be less than half screen.
- If you do not want to share quality images, you are welcome to upload smaller images.
- Consider uploading original PNG or TIFF images, if you have this quality level (do not convert a JPG image to PNG or TIFF though).
- For the purpose of thumbnail generation, a hardcoded limit of 50 million pixels (ca. 6000 x 8000 px / 7000 x 7000) exists.
- The maximum file size is currently 25 MB. You may, however, reach an earlier timeout value.
